Just eight minutes from Sur512 Apartments is the legendary Continental Club.
It dates back more than sixty years, making it the oldest continuously run club in Austin.
The club has quite a history as it began as a swanky supper club before becoming a burlesque club and later a working man's blue-collar bar.
This bar opened at 7:00 a.m. every day and turned into one of the country's premier live music venues that hosted bands such as Paul Ray and the Cobras and Bill Carter and the Blame.
Today, the club is a historical landmark that features the building's original murals and artists who perform in an array of genres.
Upcoming performances include:
The Peterson Brothers (July 24)
According to the San Antonio Express-News, “The only thing missing from the Peterson Brothers Band is the word “amazing” at the front of their name.” Born and raised in Bastrop, Texas, Alex and Glenn have played together since they were little boys. They possess a modern blend of blues, soul, and funk, and they hold a standing weekly residency at the club.
The Blues Specialists (July 27)
The Blues Specialists is an Austin-based band that has entertained audiences for twenty-eight years. The men have more than two hundred years of combined blues playing experience, and their music style is traditional Texas jump blues with a hint of jazz.
White Ghost Shivers (August 4)
Known as Austin’s #1 good-timin’ band, White Ghost Shivers is an impressive group that states it revels in string-band music from the 20s and 30s, mixing early jazz, hokum, vaudeville, and western swing. Winner of ten Austin Music Awards, the group knows how to put on a show.
