If the Greeks are known for anything, it's their delicious food! One of the best places to enjoy traditional Greek cuisine is at a Greek festival. Residents of Austin and Sur512 apartments in Austin are lucky to have access to one of the biggest festivals around. For more than 80 years, The Austin Mediterranean Festival has provided our city with the sights, sounds, and tastes of Greece. Come out and be part of this year's festivities.
On September 28th and 29th, the streets will be transformed into a Mediterranean Taverna and marketplace. The menu will now include options from other Mediterranean countries like Romania, Eritrea, and Italy, as well as the Middle East to represent the increasing diversity of the community.
The menu promises to offer everything you love about Greek food, with favorites like spinach pie, gyros, and souvlaki, as well as desserts like Baklava. And be sure to try the hummus! The chairperson of the food selection promises "you haven't lived until you have tried it!"
As you enjoy your meal, you'll be entertained by the sounds of the Mediterranean, with bouzouki music and a Greek band. Local dance troupes will add to the excitement with full performances throughout the weekend. There will also be opportunities for visitors to get up and practice some moves of their own!
When you are done with dining and dancing, head over and visit the marketplace. You will find specialty culinary items, clothing, jewelry, and other knick-knacks that will help you commemorate your visit to this event.
