Austin, TX is definitely a foodie’s paradise because of its restaurants. But it’s also a foodie’s paradise because of its great farmers’ markets!
The SFC Farmers’ Markets hold 4 of the biggest farmers’ markets in the entire state of Texas in Austin. They have more than 100 vendors selling fresh produce, fresh milk, cheese and eggs, fresh meat, baked goods, and handmade products. You can also buy herbs, plants, and flowers.
Every SFC Farmers’ Market in town has prepared food, children’s activities, and of course, live music.
One of the great things about Austin’s markets is that some on open on weekday evenings, rather than only open on weekends, as many cities do.
Because the SFC Farmers’ Market is year-round, one of the most valuable pieces of information is what is in season. The Web site of the Central Texas Sustainable Food Center has a helpful chart of what vegetables are in season.
One of the joys of farmers’ markets is talking to the vendors and getting to know both their produce and them. You can find a great list of what vendor will be at what location on their website.
