In some ways, Austin likes to brag about its unconventional ways. But the city also loves bringing old and new Austin together. One Austin tradition you won’t want to miss this winter is the Zilker Park Tree Lighting and the Trail of Lights. This is an annual Austin event and one of the city’s most popular celebrations. Last year, over 400,000 people went to the Trail of Lights!
What, when, and where, you ask? The Zilker Park Tree will remain lit nightly until December 31. The tree is a sight to see: 155 feet tall and done up right for the holidays. Its lighting is composed of 39 streamers, each holding 81 multicolored, 25-watt bulbs - a total of 3,309 lights. At the top of the tree, a double star measures 10 feet from point to point.
The Austin Trail of Lights features Zilker Park trees, special holiday displays, and exhibits it by more than 1 million lights, is open to the public and remain open until December 22. The park will be closed to cars Decmber 8 – Decmeber 22, so that families and freinds can walk through the park and enjoy the festivities. The Trail of Lights will also feature local Austin musicians, carolers, seasonal holiday food, and an entire roster of festivities. After all, it wouldn’t be a true Austin event without music.
